Plein Air Easton 2010

Once again, I cannot say enough about Easton and their Plein Air event! It was definitely a little too hot this year, but as always the host family, volunteers, collectors, fellow painters, and the subject matter was amazing. This years event was well attended, artist's from around the country, the opening Collectors Exhibit sold 90 paintings the first night, and the quick draw was jammed up and down Harrison Street, even with the heat.

With such a successful event, I must say thanks to Al, Jessica, Elizabeth, Rodney, Chrissy, David, Margaret and Dick, as well as all of those behind the scenes!

I hope to back next year.

They were just there, I saw them! Tim Bell and his disappearing Skip Jack Trick. Once at the Maritime Museum, the second at the Collector's Brunch. What a guy.

Carl von Marr

Just a few more images from the von Marr Museum.
The huge roll is actually his large painting 13 feet by 25 feet, "The Flagellants" painted in 1889 that was recently shipped back from Germany, pretty incredible.

Cedarburg WI Strawberry Fest 2010

Just finishing up a week at Cedarburg WI. A delightful place.
Met a lot of great folks, some new artist's (this blog is for you Jason) as well as had the time to run up to the Carl von Marr Museum in West Bend, while popping in on Daniel G, always a treat to see and chat with him as well.
If you have not had the chance to see this museum, I was able to snap a few photos which I have posted here.
Great little gem of a place.

Florida's Forgotten Coast Plein Air 2010

Just finishing up with Florida's Forgotten Coast Plein Air Event.
I must admit it is a great place to paint. There are a few working harbors such as, Carrabelle, Apalachicola, and East Point. Lots of beautiful old Shrimping boats as well as smaller Oyster boats nestled in all along the gulf coast. Very active little ports along with wonderful structures and beautiful architecture in and around the towns. It seems to be able to retain it's charm by being the "forgotten" coast and not being fully developed in many parts.

The event was well run, lots of support from the community, good turn out, good sales, great group of artists, lots of activities and parties to boot, plus I was thrilled to have received the Artist Choice Award as well as an honorable mention in the quick draw, which was held out on St. George Island.

Also being a midwesterner, it's really hard to beat this beautiful weather especially in May.
Thanks to all the folks involved and I look forward to being back next year.

Spring is in the air

Incredible weather for Wisconsin this time of year!
Every where you look there is a painting, I really love this time of year. The fields are just being plowed and planted, the trees are such a beautiful variety of green and light red, pink and yellow.
The grass is a brilliant green, with tufts of ochre and mauve. Absolutely beautiful.
Gotta love spring!

Finally Painting Again

After spending the better of two months on a mural, study for the mural, and a couple of childrens portraits, it is so nice to be painting again. Not quite done with the mural and figured I would cover it for a month and then revisit it and finish it up at that time.

Commissions are great don't get me wrong, but I feel as if I have not worked on anything for myself in over 2 months.

I am preparing for a show out east in early April and must admit I am really enjoying myself.

We haven't got a lot of color around these parts right now but with all of my photos and studies from last summer I am finally getting back into a lot of pieces I was waiting patiently to get at.

I actually feel like a painter again.

Encore Mural Inprogress

Winter goes on, not too much in the plein air department even with all this beautiful snow.

I've been busy working on this mural as well as a couple of portraits of some young cute girls from the east coast.

Actually enjoying my studio time for a change.

However I have been eye balling a few things out doors that I'll need to get after before the snow leaves. Don't see that happening too fast.

Sounds like the weather is fine in CA!
